Meet the COPOPS Endorsement Board

Bruce Broderius. Bruce is President of Greeley-Evans School Board; and is also active with CASB (Colorado Association of School Boards) on action items regarding the legislature. He serves on the boards of Great Education Colorado and Colorado Humanities.
Lezlie Burkley. Lezlie represents rural Colorado on the COPOPS board. She resides in Salida—south central Colorado, in the heart of the Rockies. During her nine years in the community Lezlie has been involved in several local political campaigns and initiatives, including her own successful run for Salida School Board in 2005. Lezlie has worked with others at the local, regional, and state level on educational issues in the past five years.
Lezlie has a degree in Organizational Communications and is the mother of two; a five year old boy and three year old daughter. She is married to Matt Burkley a Family Physician in Salida. Lezlie is a part-time Marketing and Public Relations consultant.
Carol Hunt. Carol lives in Denver and has a Master’s degree in Counseling and Guidance. She served as an appointee of Mayor Federico Peña directing the Office of Citizen Reponses for the City of Denver during the 1980’s. She has since worked in several non-profit organizations including the Colorado Children’s Campaign and the American Lung Association of Colorado. Carol has a son attending East High School in Denver.
Earline Hardy. Earline is a retired Mother and Grandmother, as well as a Minister at a local Church. She is an active parent volunteer, PTSA member, and Co-Chair of the Substance and Alcohol Prevention Committee.
Howard Morrison. Howard has practiced law in El Paso County since the 1960s. He has been active in the community, serving on numerous county and city boards over the years. He has two grown children who were educated in Manitou Springs public schools; his three grandchildren are currently enrolled in Denver Public Schools.
Jean Paxton. Jean has served on the Boulder Valley School Board for the last 4 1/2 years. She works on Legislative issues for the District and is on the CASB Legislative Committee. She has been active in her children's schools and in the district for the last 35 years and currently works as a substitute teacher.
Paula Romero Schmitt. Paula is a Part-time Art Teacher at the Denver Art Museum, and the mother of three Cherry Creek Students. She is also the Secretary of the Cherry Creek Legislative Network (CCCLN) Steering Committee and the President of the Women Informed Network (WIN).
Frederick Schaefer. Frederick received his law degree from the University of Denver College of Law. He manages a law practice and teaches philosophy at Metro State College. In addition to publishing books and articles, Fred serves on several community boards. He currently serves on the Board of Education for Adams 12 Five Star School District.
Jane Feldman Zavislan. Jane is one of the co-Founders of COPOPS and Great Education Colorado. She is the past President of the PTO at the Polaris at Ebert Elementary School in Denver, as well as a former member of the Collaborative Decision Making Board at Crofton Elementary School. She is an Attorney, who formerly worked at the Colorado Department of Law, and the New York County District Attorney’s Office. Jane has two children currently enrolled in Denver Public Schools; she also serves on the Boards of the Denver Association for the Gifted and Talented and Children’s Voices.
