Bill Berens is a native of the State of Colorado. He attended the University of Colorado at Boulder, Colorado, and graduated in 1974 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. Additionally, he received a Master of Science in Business Administration from the University of Northern Colorado.

Bill and Linna – his wife of 35 years have lived in House District 33 for 31 years and have two sons, Bill (30) and Andy (28).

Leadership
Bill is State Representative for House District 33. He serves on seven Legislative Committees including Local Government (Ranking Republican), Capital Development, Transportation & Energy, Health & Human Services, Police & Firefighter Pension, National Council of State Legislator’s (NCSL’s) Interstate Commerce & Telecommunication, and Council of State Government (CSG) – WEST. Bill has also served as Mayor of Broomfield for four terms, Mayor Pro-Tem, and City Councilmember. Additionally, Bill has served on many regional and city boards and commissions including the Denver Regional Council of Governments (DRCOG), Boulder Consortium of Cities, E-470 Authority, Northwest Parkway Authority, US 36 Mayors and Commissioners Coalition (founding member), Broomfield Planning and Zoning Commission, Broomfield Liquor Licensing Board, and the Building and Construction Review Board. Bill was term-limited as Mayor in November, 2001.

Experience
During Bill’s tenure as State Representative and Mayor many major projects spanning economic development, transportation, water, water reclamation, community policing and protection (SWAT), growth & open space initiatives, property tax decreases, revenue sharing for public educational facilities were initiated and mentored. Also, the implementation of a Colorado constitutional amendment (creation of the City and County of Broomfield) and a new Master Plan, which won the Governor’s Smart Growth Award in 1995, was completed. Bill is a licensed professional engineer in four states. He has been a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers since 1974. He was a member of the National Council of Engineering Examiners.

Vision
Bill has seen many of the same issues that faced him as a Mayor now in the Colorado House of Representatives and has worked to address and solve critical state issues with the same passion and dedication he has had over his public service life …. earning him “Legislator of the Year” award in his first year in the Legislature. Bill’s commitment to achieving a better Colorado will be unwavering and focused on results!
