Betty Boyd is a strong voice for Colorado families, and never fails to advocate for those who most need her help -- children, working families, people living in poverty, and senior citizens. Some of Betty's top priorities include fighting to ensure that all Coloradans have access to a quality public education, live in safe neighborhoods, and can take care of themselves with good jobs and accessible, affordable health care.
Betty is a strong supporter of public education. The most important job the state has is to assure a high quality education to all young people in Colorado.
The largest share of the state budget is spent on public P-12 schools. Students must be adequately prepared to enter the realm of Higher Education and the working world, whether sooner or later.
Betty supports small classes, especially in lower grades, so that students are able to have appropriate attention from the teacher.
Betty supports quality preschool education so that all students can enter Kindergarten at a level similar to their classmates. All students should attend Kindergarten.
Betty supports accountability, but testing should be for the purpose of assuring that students know the material expected of them, not to punish schools where students have more challenges.
Betty thinks that comprehensive teacher preparation should be a high priority. There should be a more seamless system of progression from Preschool all the way through High School and beyond.
Adequate funding is of the up most importance for the success of our public schools. Betty supports fully funding Colorado Schools.
Betty served on the Colorado High School Improvement Commission (2003-2005) and sees the need for High Schools to be creative to best serve their student population.
