I am Matt Bryant and I am seeking to be your voice in the Colorado State House of Representatives. As a native of Aurora, I have seen the growth in this area firsthand and I am aware of the challenges we face. My goal is to provide the people in our community with an ear so that we have a voice in the government.
After graduating from Smoky Hill High School I went on to the University of Oklahoma where I attained a BA in Anthropology with a minor in Classical Cultures. I believed then, as I still believe now, that in order to know where we are going we need to know where we have been. While studying the great cultures of our past and present I gained a deeper understanding of our own society and the problems we face as a nation and in our communities. During my summers I returned to Colorado where I worked at as a youth lacrosse coach and a counselor in a local school for troubled girls. For nearly a decade I have worked in the title insurance industry helping people attain the goal of home ownership.
To me, being a good legislator does not mean assuming you have all the answers, it means having the patience and wisdom to listen to the facts on all sides of the debates so in the end the decision that is best for the public can be made. I want to be in a position to make the right decisions for all of us.
I am concerned that our government is no longer acting “For the People”, because it is no longer made up “Of the People.” Politicians should remember that first and foremost they are public servants. Those that are more concerned with re-election and serving the needs of corporations over the needs of their constituents are neglecting their duties.
As a member of our community and the father of two, I am concerned with:
- Protecting our homes and the quality of our neighborhoods
- Providing strong balanced education to all of our children
- Making sure every citizen has access to affordable healthcare
- Conserving water and open spaces
- Establishing Colorado as the center for research, employment and production in the renewable energy market
- Making sure our election process is accessible, accurate and verifiable.
