I am married to Paul Engel, Senior Engineer at Lockheed Martin. We are the proud parents of Grace, 9, and Sophie, 6. As a fourth generation Coloradan, and graduate of both University of Denver and University of Colorado at Denver, my experiences have allowed me the opportunity to work as a community organizer, legislative policy advisor, professional educator, and advocate for children and families for the past fifteen years.

As an educator, I have taught in local inner city and suburban schools, served as an Academic Director, and have provided staff development training for 45 national “Street Schools.” My experiences as a teacher, administrator, researcher, and founder of a mentoring and tutoring program for at-risk youth have made me especially qualified to address the needs of our children and the future of our district.

As a community organizer, I am founder and president of "The Eleanors." I developed this active association of more than 100 members and advocates to mobilize voters, raise awareness, provide information, promote leadership, and affect state policies.

As a policy advisor, I have worked with legislators to develop strategies to improve learning and opportunities for Colorado's children. My research and writing led to an exclusive invitation to present before the Colorado Joint Education Committee in April of 2005. I was the leading proponent and author of HB1289, serving to protect our schools from governmental penalty and empower parents in the assessment process (CSAP).

As your representative, my primary goals are to protect children and quality schools, to support policies that provide affordable health care for families, and to promote a strong, secure economy, ensuring opportunities for both business and people. I am a proponent of "government of the people" and "for the people" and believe that together, we can build from our established foundations innovative and enduring strategies to meet the needs of our district, our children, and our future.
