Since his time in office, Rep. Michael Merrifield has embraced his role as House District 18's public servant with a passion that stems from his personal and professional experiences. He is a retired teacher, former small business owner, former City Council member, family man, and outdoor enthusiast who has long enjoyed—and worked to preserve—the good things about our community.

Michael taught public school for 30 years, including 16 years as teacher and director of choirs at Coronado High School in Colorado Springs. His choirs earned national recognition, and he received the Crystal Apple award in 2000 as one of Colorado Springs School District 11's finest educators.

"As a former school teacher and a parent of two, I am proud of the progress we have made improving our schools, lowering the cost of healthcare, and strengthening our economy. Together, we can continue to build on our accomplishments."
