State Representative Nancy Todd (D-Aurora) is the Colorado State Representative for District 41. Rep. Todd is a member of the State, Veterans, & Military Affairs Committee, as well as the Education Committee. She is the only Freshman Representative to have had all of her bills passed and signed by the Governor in her first term. Representative Todd serves on the interim Health Care Task Force to study issues facing Colorado citizens and the Minority Success Task Force for Higher Education. Representative Todd serves on the Workforce Development Council, the Governor’s Alignment Council for Education in Colorado, the Commission of Higher Education, and the Commission for Early Childhood and School Readiness. Colorado U.S. Senator Ken Salazar welcomed Representative Todd to serve on his Service Academy Nomination Review Board in the fall of 2005. Representative Todd also serves on the standing Education committee for National Council of State Legislators (NCSL), as a state director for both Women in Government (WIG) and National Federation of Women Legislators (NFWL).
Representative Todd’s leadership is evident with her selection as a 2006 Fellow in the Flemming Leadership Institute, a program of the Center for Policy Alternatives. She is a graduate of the Western Leadership Academy for 2006 for the Council of State Governments – West (CSG-WEST). The Colorado University Health Science Center named Representative Todd as their 2006 Legislator of the Year for work she did on behalf of increasing the potential for medical personnel for the state of Colorado. She also was named 2006 Legislator of the Year by the Colorado Community Colleges for her efforts on their behalf.
Rep. Todd worked as a professional educator for 25 years in Cherry Creek School District 5 and has lived in the Eastridge community of Aurora for over 29 years. In 2003, Rep. Todd was awarded the Colorado Mother of the Year. Rep. Todd developed CARE (Children Achieving Reading Excellence), a family literacy program that donates books to schools and families of large non-English speaking populations. Representative Todd served as the literacy chairman of the National Board of American Mothers, Inc. She also was recognized as the 2003 Patriot Educator of the Year by the American Legion. She is a member of the Aurora Rotary Club, the Aurora Chamber of Commerce, AAUW, and a supporter for the Aurora Fox Theatre.
Rep. Todd received her bachelor’s in education from the University of Kansas in 1970 and a master’s in reading from the University of Northern Colorado in 1990. Rep. Todd has been married for 35 years to Terry, a retired teacher and retired Colonel in the Army Reserves. They have two grown married sons and a black Labrador retriever who loves to recycle.
