I would just like to express my sincere thanks to COPOPS for endorsing my campaign this year. I feel very honored that I was selected because I understand how important public education is to our children. I hope that I can make COPOPS proud in protecting public education.
Personally, I would love to see full day kindergarten for all children and preschool available to those who want to attend. Preschool made such a difference in our daughter's education. And full day kindergarten has made such a much more visible impact than just half day kindergarten. The opportunity for learning and growth in each child is so immense, shouldn't we take full advantage of the time when they are just starting to learn?
I also believe the idea of vouchers is absurd. It seems to me that if you don't like the way the a school is being run, then parents need to get involved in that school and make a difference. Get involved with the school's PTO program, talk with the principal and teachers or go to the School Board meetings and make your voice be heard. Parents have to make their voices heard. It's not enough to just going to sit and criticize the public school system, parents have to be involved.
I hope we can take our public school system to new heights and make our children smarter and more confident. The children are our future, and public schools are the avenues to take them there.
